The reigning Div 1B champions Millonarios Orlando stormed by Atlas United 9-3 in their spring 2010 season opener. With 3 different players having a pair of goals each, Millos Orlando were able to come home with the victory and start the new season where they left off last.

Millos went into their first game of the season with a handful of new players as well as having a couple of key starters out. Millos Orlando started the match in their traditional and effective 4-4-2 formation with a new face Sam Luedke in charge between the pipes for the blue, filling the boots for the 2 absent center backs was Nick Hall and rookie Ben Beasley supported by Lee Speight off to the right and Nelson Vallejo on the left. Brian Phillips and  Fall 2009 honorable mention Christian Bustamante anchored the middle of the park joined by Luciano Mendieta and rookie Jimmy Montes on the wings. Up top millos started  with fall 2009 league leading scorer Diego Cordeiro assisted by well-known  face but new to the millos roster Taylor Moore.

It didn’t take long before the Millos side took full possession of the ball; lead by Christian Bustamante in the middle of the park the blue patiently knocked the ball around getting everyone comfortable to the oppositions defensive structure before attempting to break down what seemed to be a very organized Atlas backline that held their line very high trying to catch the Millos lively forwards and wingers off-sides.

Millonarios Orlando got on the board early in the first half when Taylor Moore slotted a perfect cross to Bustamante who without hesitation one timed the ball into the side netting.

Millos second goal came within minutes when Luciano Mendieta rapidly broke through the Atlas United backline and quickly found Taylor Moore in the middle who easily found the back of the net claiming his first goal on his millos debut. 2-0 Millonarios Orlando.

After some appealing combination play involving multiple defenders and mid-fielders, Bustamante earned his second goal of the match after receiving the ball just outside the penalty box where he took on a defender and ripped a shot from 20 yards out into the top corner of the goal, giving the blue a comfortable 3-0 lead with 35 minutes left in the first half. Coming on as a sub due to injury, it took Philip hall only 5 minutes to make his mark in the season opener after pacing by some Atlas defenders off a cross and placed the ball into the back of the net with his right foot giving the millos a 4-0 lead.

Atlas United got their first break in the first half after lazy defending by the Millos on a corner kick that led to multiple deflections and finally the back of the net putting Atlas United on the board making it 4-1. Without any remorse Millos bounced right back when Rossell Duran made a perfect run towards goal while breaking Atlas United’s offside trap, Duran found himself one on one with the keeper who made a great save but was unable to catch Hector Espitia off the rebound who with an open goal made no mistake and found the back of the net putting millos up 5-1.

With just a couple minutes left in the half atlas took advantage of a free kick that bobbled out of the keepers hand and landed at the feet of a United player who scored quickly and gave Atlas united another goal going into half time with a 5-2 result.

Millos Orlando came into the second half extremely relaxed and suffered the consequences within minutes when an Atlas United player broke through the left flank and ripped a shot with his left foot into the goal giving Luedke no chance of making a save. Millos showed tremendous resilience and came back to score an astounding 4 goals including 2 goals from rookie Jimmy Montes, a second goal by Taylor Moore and a beautiful header off a corner kick by Nick Hall to seal the deal for the blue who ended the match with a much deserved 9-3 victory and loads of confidence going into week 2 of their season.
