On the last day of the regular season, Millonarios Orlando squared off against The Spartans. They would have to close out the season without their two star midfielders, Philip Hall and Christian Bustamante. Millos were also missing a few other key players but that wouldn’t stop them from taking care of business. Sam Luedke held it down in goal for Millos and he was supported by Nick Hall and Phillip Kats in central defense. Starting full-backs were Lee Speight and Nelson Vallejo. Securing the midfield was Diego Cordeiro and Brian Phillips in the middle with Luciano Mendieta and Jimmy Montes out wide. Rossell Duran and Taylor Moore led the attack for the boys in blue.

Similar to the first meeting between the two clubs, Millonarios established possession early and was clearly the more talented and organized squad. The first goal came after about ten minutes of play from a nice buildup. Millos worked the ball down the right side of the field and Diego Cordeiro played a nice square pass across the top of the box for Nick Hall. Hall took one touch to set up for a quick left-footed shot with the defense closing in on him. It was a quality strike and the keeper got just enough of his glove on the ball to deflect it off the near post. The shot bounced right back across the face of goal to a wide open Rossell Duran who easily scored on the empty net.

The second goal again came from nice buildup of play down the right side. Brian Phillips made a piercing run down the wing and put in a threatening cross into the penalty area. It bounced kindly to Taylor Moore who hammered home a quality side-volley with his right foot to make it 2-0 in favor of Millos. After going up by two goals Millonarios seemed to get complacent and they would pay the price for it. The Spartans won a free kick from about 40-yards out and scored an inconceivable goal from it. The Spartans player hit a very simple driven shot towards goal and keeper Sam Luedke was caught off his line and unable to save the attempt. Millos gave up another goal just before the half after losing the ball down the left side. The defense was caught out of position and The Spartans had a breakaway which led to a one-on-one with the keeper. Sam Luedke did well to come out and force the early shot but the attacking player was able to score. At half time the score was 2-2.

After a very fiery half time discussion amongst the Millos players, they all came out focused to finish off the game with a win and end the season on a positive note. They dominated the entire half and allowed nothing out of the defense while creating several scoring chances. The winning goal was a trademark Millonarios Orlando quality finish. After a bit of sloppy play in the midfield, the ball was bouncing around and Taylor Moore composed himself and played a perfect side-volley pass to Brian Phillips making a run down the right side. Phillips beat the entire defense and struck a beautiful first-time volley from just inside the box. The shot rocketed past the keeper to the far post and sealed the deal for Millos making it 3-2 in their favor. The Spartans almost scored from another 40-yard direct free kick but thankfully Sam Luedke got a fingertip to it, deflected it off the crossbar. Final score was 3-2 and Millonarios Orlando earned yet another hard fought victory. Brian Phillips and Taylor Moore earned a dual Man of the Match award as they each had a goal and an assist.

Millonarios Orlando secured their 3rd consecutive regular season title and now turn their focus to the playoffs, where they are looking to earn a 3rd consecutive tournament championship! Congratulations to all the Millos players for another great season. Now let’s get it done in the playoffs!
