Starting Lineup Sam Luedke Substitutes Addison |
Millonarios Orlando was in great form for their first night match in team history. After defeating Team Deportivo over the weekend they had to refocus quickly to prepare for The Spartans with only one full day of rest. Due to the mid-week contest, Millos was without several key players but still manage to field a stellar starting lineup. Leading Millos from the back was goalkeeper Sam Luedke who was battling an illness. In the back-line was Phillip Kats and Nick Hall supported by Pablo Diaz and Juan Pablo Londono. The midfield was secured by Christian Bustamante and Brian Phillips in the middle flanked by Luciano Mendieta and Jimmy Montes on the wings. Leading the attack for Millos was Hector Espitia and Taylor Moore. Millonarios Orlando was caught off guard in the first minutes of the contest. Spartans played a very fast counter attacking style that put Millos under pressure early earning them a corner kick. Keeper Sam Luedke unfortunately was not watching the ball and as he was directing players the corner kick was taken directly on goal. He was able to adjust to get a glove on the attempt but it was not enough and Millos went down 0-1 after about 5 minutes of play. Millos quickly rebounded however and rallied despite the lapse in concentration. After a nice build up through the midfield, Christian Bustamante played a ball into the area for striker Hector Espitia. Taking it in stride he set up for a shot with his left foot and ripped it past the Spartan goalkeeper to the far post making it level pegging at 1-1. Millos took control of the match after settling in and adjusting to The Spartans’ style of play. Before the first half ended they would find the net once more. Winger Luciano Mendieta found space throughout the entire game and one of his many crosses into the box fell kindly to his fellow winger Jimmy Montes. The cross sailed over everyone past the far post, bounced once, and Montes riffled one of the best goals of the season. His left-footed volley from an improbable angle rocketed over the keeper’s head into the side netting giving Millos a 2-1 lead. For most of the first half Millos struggled to maintain possession and was unable to put strings of passes together. The defense was put to the test several times as Spartans did everything they could to level the score before the break. Goalkeeper Sam Luedke had several punched and caught balls and also several successful charges to shut down the Spartan fast breaks. Score at half time was 2-1. The second half was essentially a mirror image of the first. Millos did manage to finally get several nice runs of possession and dominated defensively. Christian Bustamante was the provider once again this time setting up Taylor Moore with a perfect through ball to split the Spartan defense. Moore broke for goal and ripped a shot far post from just outside the penalty area. The keeper had no chance at saving the low driven shot and Taylor Moore secured the victory putting Millos up 3-1. Throughout the match Millos had close to a dozen shots as spaced opened in the midfield. Goalkeeper Sam Luedke performed admirably after the first goal, earning the Man of the Match honor for his dominating presence between the sticks. Overall it was a very strong performance from Millonarios Orlando who improved their record to 5-0 and remain at the top of Division 1A. |
